Merry Christmas 2012

A bit delayed on my blog - but trust me, the cards all went out before xmas :-)

My theme for the cards was Scandinavian Christmas. I reduced the colour scheme down to red and white but made each card slightly different and unique. I used different techniques and materials to finish them, including stamping, stitching, glueing, use of red and white chequered ribbon and red or silver sparkling gems.

Birthday Cards

Manly Birthday Card

For my Dad's birthday I made this card.

I think it can be quite difficult to craft a birthday card for man that isn't overloaded or kitschy but still looks sophisticated and thoughtful.

As my Dad is a person who quite likes to travel and seeing that I moved into a different country, I thought it would be a nice idea to do something with a vintage map print. The print I used was from the latest homemaker magazine. I used a blue card for the base which picks up some of the colour hues in the map print. To give it a bit more interest, I added paper flowers, an organza like ribbon, some gems and a label.

Although I didn't manage to post the card on time to reach him at the day, he was still very touched by the card.

Girly Birthday Card

It might be the spring feeling - I really seem to be back into pink!
This card is for one of my best friend's 27th bday. I used some print from the homemaker magazine, picked the base card colour to match and a vintage ribbon, a very bright ribbon, a paper flower and a paper button to hold it all down.

Fairy Cupcakes

It's been a while since I posted...Today I have quite a few new bits for you.

I've been busy baking yesterday - cupcakes. These were trials for my sister's wedding the end of May. The recipes are from the "Great British Bake Off" book. I went for two different flavours:

Lemon cupcakes with lemon curd butter swirl. They are decorated with pink forget-me-not sugar flowers from Hobbycraft and Dr. Oetker Hundred and Thousands.

Vanilla cupcakes with dark chocolate frosting. Decorated with burgundy forget-me-nots and sugar pearls.

The beautiful cupcake wraps are both from Hobbycraft.
